In 1882 George Pliny Sawyer purchased the lot of land on North Street that backed up to Arlington Park where 65 Arlington now stands. In 1883 Sawyer commissioned architect J. L. Silsbee to design a house for him on North Street. In December of 1886 Ida Sawyer (wife of George Sawyer) sold the 55' x 242' lot to Caroline Cottier for the sum of $13,750. Cottier is reported living at this address in 1888. The price of the property suggests that it was unimproved at the time of its sale in 1886. If so, the house that stands here was probably built in 1887. It was also announced that “Mr. C. Cottier has purchased from George P. Sawyer the lot corner of North Street and Arlington Place 55 feet by 243 deep running to Wadsworth Park. Terms private.”

It is possible that this design was the one that Silsbee executed in 1883 for Sawyer, but there is no proof of this. The front part of the lot that faced North Street was sold to Frank Goodyear who built 292 North Street which still stands today.
