Originally this building housed The University Club, which fell on hard times after a massive fire destroyed most of the building in 1984. Prior to the fire, The University Club was comprised of four connected buildings, the first of which was built in 1905. After the fire, this building was sold to a private owner and the three remaining buildings were separated (now 538 Delaware Ave.) and remained for several years as the University Club premises. Some years later this building was resold to Ellicott Development which converted it to the Bellasara apartments in 2001.
