Originally these three buildings were part of the University Club, which also included the building at
540 Delaware Ave. The University Club fell on hard
times after a massive fire destroyed most of the front building (540
Delaware) in 1984. Prior to the fire, the University Club was
comprised of four connected buildings, the first of which was built in
1905. After the fire, the front building was sold to a private owner
and the three remaining buildings were separated (538 Delaware) and
remained the University Club premises. But with the loss of the most
grand of the buildings, the University Club's membership dwindled from
more than 700 to just 32 by 1999. The three buildings which now
comprise Allentown Athletix, were sold to the current owners on
February 5, 1999. Some years later the front building was resold to
Ellicott Development which converted the building to the Bellasara Apartments.
